8 Important Feminist Life Lessons

By Alisa Bhakta ’16

Caitlin Moran on loving your body: “I love my BOOBS.”

Pat Robertson on the after effects of feminism: “Feminism encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians.”

Tina Fey keeping it short and sweet: “Know what? Bitches get stuff done.”

Betty White on comparing male and female anatomy: “Why do people say ‘Grow some balls’? Balls are weak and sensitive! If you really wanna get tough, grow a vagina! Those things take a pounding!”

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on being a strong independent woman: “Of course I am not worried about intimidating men. The type of man who will be intimidated by me is exactly the type of man I have no interest in.”

Amy Poehler on women who renounce feminism: “That’s like someone being like, ‘I don’t really believe in cars, but I drive one every day and I love that it gets me places and makes life so much easier and faster and I don’t know what I would do without it.”

Mindy Kaling on body image: “I’m also the recipient of a lot of backhanded compliments about it, where people are like, ‘It’s so nice that Mindy Kaling doesn’t feel she needs to subscribe to the ideals of beauty that other people do.’ And I’m like, I do subscribe. They’re like, ‘It’s so refreshing that Mindy feels comfortable to let herself go and be a fat sea vvmonster!’ By the way, I run and work out. It takes a lot of effort to look like a normal/chubby woman.”

Lena Dunham on the new trend: “There’s always an article coming out, saying, ‘The new thing is funny women!’”
